Meirs Covid-19 Response

MEIRS Response to COVID-19 COVID-19 has disproportionately affected refugee and immigrant communities. Whether it is in responding to job loss, increased food insecurity, or a lack of accurate information about the pandemic, MEIRS’s ability to provide linguistically and culturally tailored assistance to the refugee and immigrant communities is critical as Maine continues to work to protect individuals and families from COVID-19 and prevent its spread.

MEIRS, in collaboration with L/A Task Force, a collaborative effort to educate our community about the COVID-19 did a mass-testing door to door awareness for the community to get tested.

MEIRS FOOD DISTRIBUTION

In partnership with the Good Shepherd Food Bank in Lewiston, MEIRS distributes food its community three times a week (Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays). Families struggles with food insecurity and MEIRS food distribution serves more than 300 families a week.

MEIRS DAY PROGRAM

In partnership with the Lewiston Public Schools, MEIRS Day program provide a supervised childcare and learning environment for LPS school aged students up to age 14 with support for remote schoolwork on days that they are not scheduled to be at school for in person learning.

Our staff are trained and multilingual that provides support to students and their parents. MEIRS also has staff the does home visits to support parents and students who cannot attend our Day program. In partnership with the Lewiston Public School, MEIRS also provides break fast and lunch to students in the program.

MEIRS also provides free transportation to and from the MEIRS Day program daily from 7:45am.
